Pelvic Congestion Syndrome
This is a condition characterised by large distended veins in the pelvis akin to varicose veins of the leg. It can cause of pelvic pain, pain with intercourse (typically a post-coital ache) and pelvic ache after prolonged standing.
Diagnosis can be made on ultrasound scan or sometimes at laparoscopy. Treatments include medication such as high dose medroxyprogesterone acetace(a hormone) or the oral contraceptive pill, interventional radiology or, in extreme circumstances, hysterectomy
